Could ChatGPT be a good student? It has made some shoddy attempts to be a journalist and a therapist.
Terwiesch found that ChatGPT passed the final test he had proctored for the chatbot in a Master of Business Administration course.
Last Monday, Terswiesch disclosed his research in a paper, revealing that ChatGPT not only passed but also received a B- to a B.
On the basis of case studies, he first asserts that ChatGPT did well on open-ended questions.
Second, the AI appeared to have trouble grasping some sixth-grade mathematics, as evidenced by, for instance, responses that were ten-fold off.
Finally, issues involving "process analysis," such as "process flows with many products and difficulties with stochastic effects like demand variability," were inaccessible to the chatbot.
When given human hints, ChatGPT was able to enhance its performance, much like a student may do when asking a professor for help during a test.
Terwiesch works as a researcher with the Mack Institute for Innovation Management at Wharton.
