INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES
ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS
  1. Introduction

The International Organization for Standardization, as stated in BS EN ISO 22301, defined "business continuity" as the capability of an organization to continue the delivery of its products and / or services, at acceptable predefined levels, following a disruptive incident. Business continuity management is a holistic management process that identifies potential threats to an organization and the impacts to business operations those threats, if realized, might cause. It provides a framework for building organizational resilience with the capability of an effective response that safeguards the interests of its key stakeholders, reputation, brand and value-creating activities.

Business continuity is therefore about keeping critical activities going in the event of an interruption to business, including any type of incident that may impact on business, people, buildings, IT or suppliers. Examples include power outages, network failure, cyber attacks, pandemic etc.

Business Continuity Management has been more particularly defined in BS EN ISO 22301. This is based on the PDCA principle as follows:

  • Plan: Establish business continuity policy, objectives, targets, controls, processes and procedures.
  • Do: implementation and operate the business continuity policy, controls, processes and procedures.
  • Check: Monitor and review performance against business continuity policy and objectives.

Act: Maintain and improve the Business Continuity Management System by taking corrective action.
